Anyone who owns a Keurig single cup brewer knows that the machine is great, the coffee is excellent...but that the cost per cup is a little high.
The price of K-Cups isn’t high when compared to going down to the local Starbucks, but it is when compared to making coffee at home with a traditional drip brewer.
So what can you do?
There are a couple of options.
First, you can join a coffee club, like Green Mountain Coffee’s Café EXPRESS. You sign up to receive the K-Cup coffees of your choice, on a regular basis, and save $2 on every box.
It’s not a bad deal as you’ll not only be saving money on every cup, but will also avoid those nasty moments when you run out of coffee and have to find somewhere that sells K-Cups.
Another way to save on your K-Cup coffee is to use a reusable filter. The "My K-Cup" for the Keurig is a neat device that allows you to add ground coffee to a reusable filter and use it in your Keurig brewer.
You lose a little on the convenience, because you have to wash and then refill the filter with ground coffee for every cup you make.
The upside is that you have an unlimited choice of coffees – essentially any coffee you can buy and then grind.
Also, your cost per cup will be exactly the same as if you were buying the same coffees for use in a drip brewer.
We have one of these reusable K-Cup filters and cup holders ourselves, and find that it only takes about 30 seconds to clean and refill the filter between brews.
So the loss of convenience and speed doesn’t really both us.
