Review: Cuisinart SS-1 Cup-O-Matic Single Serve Coffeemaker.
The Cuisinart SS-1 is perhaps the most practical of all single serve coffee makers.
It is a pod coffee maker, but it’s also a regular coffee maker.
In other words, you can use either coffee pods or loose coffee. It’s a single serve coffee pod brewer and a regular drip brewer, all in the same package.
This makes sense for most of us. While I might want to enjoy the convenience of a single serve coffee pod brewer most of the time, there may be times when I would be grateful for being able to use loose coffee in the same brewer.
* I might want to try a coffee or coffee blend that isn’t available in the coffee pod format.
* I might want to save money by using loose coffee some of the time, instead of using coffee pods every time I make coffee.
* I might just run out of coffee pods and want to be able to reach for my regular coffee tin and make a brew.
It really does make sense to have the choice.
The next good thing about the Cuisinart SS-1 is that you use the same, permanent filter basket for both the coffee pods and the loose coffee.
You don’t have to switch filters or remove pod holders or anything complicated like that. Nor do you need filter papers.
You simply pull out the steel basket and add either a coffee pod or a couple of measures of loose coffee.
But that’s not all that is new and different about the Cuisinart SS-1.
One of the reasons this brewer makes such a great cup of coffee is that it uses a tamping piston. At the end of each brew cycle this piston comes down and tamps out the rest of the coffee goodness from the coffee pod or ground coffee you're using.
This not only delivers a better tasting cup of coffee, but also makes cleanup a lot easier, as the pods or loose coffee have almost all the water squeezed out of them.
Finally, the Cuisinart SS-1 includes a charcoal filter in the water reservoir, so you get clean water with every brew, and the best tasting coffee possible.
These are the main features that separate the Cuisinart SS-1 from other pod coffee makers. Combined with the solid construction of the brewer, they all add up to an excellent reason for making this your one coffee maker.
